CONCEPT

「People Have The Power」では、ベトナム反戦や黒人差別、世間の偏見と戦った人物や、平和を求める活動に大きな足跡を残した人々が登場します。

Pressure distorts the contours of perception and existence.

The first solo exhibition in Japan by artist Anton Reva, presented at DIESEL ART GALLERY.

DIESEL ART GALLERY will host “NERVOUS,” the first solo exhibition in Japan by artist Anton Reva, from April 25 (Saturday) to July 12 (Sunday), 2026.

NERVOUS brings together two interlinked projects into a single perceptual field shaped by pressure - the pressure of contemporary space on perception, attention, clarity, and the ability to sustain deeper thought. The exhibition unfolds as an environment of perceptual disorientation, where depth, connection, and dialogue begin to erode.

At its core, NERVOUS explores emotional states that resist articulation - sensations that exist within consciousness and the body, yet evade language. These are moments of misalignment, when the self and the world fall out of sync. Across 99 works, the project traces fragments of lived experience, examining the fragility of perception and the ongoing search for inner voice, identity, and connection.

The works operate as an experimental field: real-life artifacts are transformed through distortion, memory, and inner impulse. Each experience carries the residue of previous ones, forming a continuous internal tension. Beneath every social interaction runs an invisible dialogue that shapes how we exist - a quiet but persistent pressure that defines the project’s system.

Recurring motifs include inexplicable emotion, internal turbulence, anxiety, and the distortion of memory under pressure. The works navigate perceptual dissonance, emotional proximity, and the unstable balance between self and world.

Within this framework, What Are They Going Through (WATGT) series emerges as a sub-context of NERVOUS. It reflects on the gradual loss of connection between an individual and their own voice - the slow silencing of desire, imagination, and intention. Under sustained pressure, the subject turns inward, eventually merging with their environment, assuming a state of objecthood.

A second dimension unfolds internally: within imagination, movement and possibility persist - a parallel life where the self remains active and free. In contrast, the physical world contracts. Dreams atrophy, perception dulls, and the capacity for meaningful connection diminishes.

Together, NERVOUS and WATGT construct a unified visual language - one that reflects a contemporary condition of overstimulation, paralysis, and disconnection. The works trace how individuals gradually lose their relationship to life itself, settling into a state of quiet, persistent stasis.

In addition to showcasing and selling artworks, T-shirts and related goods produced in collaboration with DIESEL will also be available at the exhibition.

Anton Reva

Anton Reva (b. 1997) is a multidisciplinary artist and video director.

His practice moves and transforms between photography, video art, collage, experimental printmaking, and installation, engaging deeply with the emotional impact of identity fragmentation, digital culture, the reinterpretation of feelings, and the psychological tension between memory and hypermodern reality.

Blending analog and digital techniques, Reva constructs layered visual narratives that feel both archival and futuristic. His work often incorporates physical interventions - fire, distorted payper layers, ash, decay, water - as well as custom printing methods, tactile collage, and digital manipulation. Over time, this process has developed into a visual language that is intuitive, fractured, and emotionally charged: a meditation on presence and absence, and on the distorted nature of perception in oversaturated media environments, as well as an exploration of the emotional pressure of living in today’s world and negotiating the effects of one’s background.

Drawing inspiration from the lyricism of early poetry and contemporary digital aesthetics, Reva’s compositions unfold like reconstructed dreams. They disrupt linear storytelling and instead operate as spectral documents - part fiction, part memory - offering glimpses into interior states shaped by solitude, physical pain, overstimulation, chaos, dissonance, and longing.

Reva’s work has been exhibited internationally in Paris, New York, Dubai, Moscow and Seoul, and featured in publications including DAZED, Office Magazine, Numéro Netherlands, The Art Newspaper, and Vogue. Across all mediums, his practice questions the durability of images and the role of the artist in an era defined by accelerated visual consumption, creating a body of work that is deeply personal, restlessly experimental, and conceptually engaged.

His projects span photography, video, and installation, while also extending into the worlds of fashion and music, where his visual sensibility has shaped short films and visual works for artists such as Post Malone, Troye Sivan, Yojiro Noda, Brent Faiyaz, Tohji, Diplo, and Future, as well as brands including Givenchy, Armani Exchange, Nike, Adobe, and UNIQLO, among many other collaborative experiences.
