DIESEL ART GALLERY will hold a special talk event on New York Underground Cinema on March 14, 2026, in celebration of DIESEL ART GALLERY BOOK MARKET. The event will feature Johan Kugelberg, founder and curator of the legendary New York gallery BOO-HOORAY, in conversation with leading street culture scholar Hiroshi Egaitsu. The event is hosted by Flying Books.

Introducing selection of ultra-rare original ephemera and photography from the NYC film underground from the 1960s to the 1980s featuring the work of Jack Smith, Andy Warhol, Richard Kern, David Wojnarowicz, Tony Conrad, Barbara Rubin, Jonas Mekas and many more. (also on sale). Also release a new zine about underground cinema exclusively for event attendees.zines. As a special admission gift, stickers will be presented on a first-come, first-served basis.

Boo-Hooray was founded in New York in 2010 and has to date organized and placed over 150 cultural archives with universities and museums worldwide. Its client list includes British Museum, Harvard University, Oxford University, Stanford University, The Pompideo, The Munich Design Museum, MOCA, MoMA and many more. Boo-Hooray has staged over 120 exhibitions at galleries and museums worldwide. Notable books by Johan Kugelberg include ‘The Velvet Underground New York Art’, ‘God Save Sex Pistols’, ‘Jonas Mekas A Dance With Fred Astaire’ and ‘Beauty is in the Street’.

Tokyo-born writer. He began his career as a DJ in the early 90s clublands in Tokyo and began writing for music /fashion press. After the 2010s, he took a critical approach to street culture, curatorial work for “Shintai, Baitai, Graffiti” with Side Core(2013), “Rap Museum” at Ichihara Lakeside Museum(2018), “Arata Isozaki and Hiroba of Oita”(2024). Music direction for “Wagner Project, a pop-up Hip-Hop school”( Yokohama, Frankfurt, and Kanwazawa) since 2019 and for “Delivery” at Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Belgium 2022 with Akira Takayama of Port B. GASBOOK is a project launched by Gas As Interface in 1996 as a medium dedicated to introducing global creativity and collecting new ideas in art and design from around the world.
In its early years, instead of traditional “books,” the project released original packages—such as T-shirts and DVDs—featuring works by international artists. Starting with GASBOOK 01 GROOVISIONS published in 2002, the format shifted to spotlighting one (or sometimes two) creator(s) per issue, continuing through Issue 37.
Over the years, GASBOOK has featured a diverse range of creators, including Mike Mills, Jun Takahashi, MADSAKI, Jonathan Zawada, YOSHIROTTEN, and Yuni Yoshida. For many, it became their first published monograph.

Studio photography and distinctive Q&A interviews, consistent across all titles, are key signatures of the series. Even today, GASBOOK continues to serve as a platform that introduces pioneering artists whose work remains influential across disciplines, roviding enduring references for contemporary creative practice.

SUPER LABO is a Tokyo-based publisher specializing in photobooks. Founded in 2009 by Yasunori Hoki, it has collaborated with numerous internationally acclaimed artists, including Petra Collins, Ed Templeton, and Jim Goldberg, and actively organizes events in major cities around the world. It currently operates the concept store (bookstore + gallery) “SUPER LABO STORE TOKYO” in Tokyo’s Jimbocho district, where all photobooks published by SUPER LABO are presented alongside a selection of exclusive items.
